Getting ready for kindergarten is exciting – and we want your child to stay excited about learning. So while we increase the focus on math, science, language and social studies, we make sure it’s presented with a big dose of fun. Our curriculum follows the guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice set forth by national accrediting associations. Our curriculum helps children develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they’ll need to succeed in kindergarten, school and life. I plan lessons to deepen understanding of basic academic concepts through exploration, investigation and play. We provide a place where children can challenge themselves and enjoy the thrill of discovery as they look forward to school. In fact, a recent study showed that children in our program made substantial gains in development and had the necessary skills to enter and excel in kindergarten.
Our comprehensive reading program involves every avenue to the brain through play and fun age appropriate activities. Children leaving here for kindergarten are reading at a National end of 2nd grade level, and some well above that level.
Children also have a firm foundation in math and other subjects and enter kindergarten excelling in these area as well.
Nurturing children's love of learning is the inspiration for everything we do at Discovery Kids World .
Our Pre-Kindergarten program provides children with guided experiences, supervised by caring adults, in safe and secure settings.
We don't want any child graduating from here to be without the skills needed for success in life.
We foster self-esteem and develop a love of learning. Play places, personal spaces and a security system creates a learning atmosphere that is ideal for early childhood education.
A baby’s brain has 100 billion neurons at birth, only 17 percent of which are connected to one another. As the child grows, the neurons connect to one another; traveling through these connections are the electrical impulses that are the physical manifestation of the thought process.
During a child’s first two years, brain activity speeds up exponentially as more and more neurons become wired together; this wiring is largely determined by our children’s everyday experiences.
Dr. Marjorie Hogan, professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota, puts it this way: “The development of neural networks in a child’s brain is use-dependent.” In other words, what children see, pay attention to, and experience – i.e., how they use their brains on a day-to-day basis – determines how they develop mentally, and influences the structure of these neural pathways. Children show up in this world with a basic tool kit that includes imagination. If a child uses their imagination daily, this creativity will become a permanent part of the way their mind functions, on into adulthood.
