We built our center Discovery Kids World onto the back of our house. The house is small, but Our center is much bigger. It was designed specifically for children to learn and have fun.
We live in an old but safe neighborhood. The families on this street have been here for decades.
To come into the Center you go under the carport to the door with the security Camera.
No one just driving down the street could know that there was a school or child care in our house.
Not only do we teach more than the centers, but we also can bond with the children in a way that is considered best practices by the NAEYC. The only employees that come in contact with the children is our family. The kids call my dad papa bob He comes into the classrooms 2 to 3 times a day to say Hi to the kids. They call my mom Grandma Alice and they call me miss Janet. The children have a sense of extended family and they love each other like brothers and sisters. Our parents say that they really love the family atmoshphere and that the kids can't wait to come to school each morning.
The children get plenty of exercise and outdoor time while being protected from the sun.
Our vegetable and fruit garden, extends from the front yard to the side, and then into the backyard. The children love to water the plants and watch them grow and then eat what they have been helping to grow.
In the backyard we have a large shaded playground that has swings, slides, climbers, rocking toys, spinning toys, balls, digging toys, a three sided easel, wagons, and tricycles. We have a cement path that goes around to the front yard, where older kids are allowed to ride with supervision of course.
